Turn-off Auto Correction of a Word in MS Word 2007

MS Word 2007 was bugging me for a long time with auto-correcting the word “IHS” (which is the IBM HTTP Server) to “HIS”. I just decided to find a solution and turn-off the auto-correct feature for this word, and it turned out to be very easy. I should have done it in the first place.

Here are the steps:

  1. In MS Word 2007 click on the MS Office button at the top left corner and select “Word Options”.
  2. From the left-nav select “Proofing”.
  3. Click on the “AutoCorrect Options…” button.
  4. On the “AutoCorrect” tab and under “Replace text as you type” look for IHS (it was lower-case for me) and remove it from the list.
  5. Click OK an all the open dialogs to confirm the change.

It should not bug you anymore.
